ATHOL- John J. Chapalonis Jr., 64, of 122 Riverbend Street, died peacefully Saturday night, May 11, 2013 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare- campus, Worcester, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Athol on April 21, 1949, he was a son of John J. Sr. and Hazel (Duel) Chapalonis and spent his entire life in Athol.

A self employed carpenter before he retired, John had also worked for the N. D. Cass Company, the Thomas McCann Company, Adell’s in Orange and Girardi Distributors.

John was married to Deborah (LaFountain) on May 6, 1972 and had just celebrated their 41 years together.

John enjoyed sports and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan as well as a Dallas Cowboys fan. He had enjoyed hunting and fishing, bowling, bingo, softball, and playing cards, especially poker. John was a member of the Athol-Orange Elks Lodge #1837.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Chapalonis of Athol; a son, John J. Chapalonis III and his wife, Karen, of Athol; daughters, Bonnie Chapalonis and her fiancé, Martin Tessier, and Bobbie Chapalonis, all of Athol; grandchildren, Kala Chapalonis, Tapanga Chapalonis, Jaylynn Chapalonis, Isaiah Garcia, Jordan Chapalonis, and Daryl Chapalonis; brothers, George Chapalonis and Terry Chapalonis and his wife, Cindy, all of Athol; and many nephews and nieces.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by a daughter, Veronica Chapalonis and a sister, Patricia Howell.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, Athol.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18th at 1 p.m. at the Lithuanian Club, 365 South Street, Athol.

Interment will be private.
