ATHOL- Deborah M. (Lafountain) Chapalonis, 61, of Riverbend Street, died unexpectedly at Athol Hospital early Tuesday morning, June 2, 2015, after being stricken ill at home.

Born in Wendell on April 22, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Victor and Henrietta (Webster) Lafountain and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada at a young age and returned to Massachusetts at the age of 16.

On May 6, 1972, Deborah married John J. Chapalonis Jr. and they enjoyed 41 years together until his death on May 11, 2013.

Deborah had worked at the former N.D. Cass Toy Company in Athol as well as doing bar tending at the Dery Bar and the former Royal Pub, both in Athol.

Devoted to her family, Deborah loved every minute with them. She enjoyed painting, doing crafts, playing cards, bingo, feeding the birds and fishing with her grandchildren.

Deborah was a member of the Athol-Orange Elks Lodge #1837.

Survivors include her son, John J. Chapalonis III and his wife, Karen; daughters, Bonnie Chapalonis and her companion, Martin Tessier, and Bobbie Chapalonis, all of Athol; grandchildren, Kala Chapalonis, Tapanga Chapalonis, Jaylynn Chapalonis, Isaiah Garcia, Jordan Chapalonis, and Daryl Chapalonis; a brother, Floyd Lafountain and his wife, Glenda, of Athol; and many nephews and nieces.

Beside her husband and parents, Deborah was predeceased by a daughter, Veronica Chapalonis, as well as two sisters, Delphine Woodard and Zena Root.

There are no calling hours.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Franco American Club, 592 South Street, Athol, from 4 p.m. until midnight.

Interment will be private.
