Chessie Laura Wilcox Guffey was the daughter of Greenberry C. Wilcox. Following the death of her mother not long after Chessie's birth, she was raised by her older sister, Liddie, and brother-in-law, Jim Allison.
Chessie married Ernest Monroe Guffey on July 18, 1921, in Jackson County, Alabama. To this union was born four children - Katherine Elizabeth, James Edward, Paul Russell, and Charles Everett Garland Guffey. Katherine Elizabeth died of whooping cough on February 6, 1922, at only a few months of age.
Chessie's nephew, Leroy Pritchett, son of Oscar & Mittie Wilcox Pritchett (Chessie's sister), was also married into the Guffey Family. Leroy married Gladys Guffey, the only sister of Ernest Guffey.
Chessie was a member of the Free Holiness Church.
