Robert "Wolf River Bob" Breeze, 87, of White Cloud, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at his apartment in White Cloud.
Wolf River Bob, as he was known in the area, was born at White Cloud, December 10, 1926, one of four children born to Ray and Gladys Nuzum Breeze. He grew up at White Cloud where he attended school. At the age of 15, he knew he wanted to travel and headed to California to live with his sisters. He and his sister Norma, entered the service the same day. He was drafted into the U.S. Army out of San Pedro, California at the age of 18, and was sent to occupied Japan during World War II. After the war, Bob worked at Vandenberg Missile Base in California a few years before he starred in Wild West shows, honing his skills as a trick shot and trick bullwhipper. Although he never made it big in the movie business, he did get to help on sets of Gunsmoke, Rawhide, and doubled for Chuck Connors on the Rifleman. He returned home to White Cloud in 1969 where he kept actively involved in the community and founded the local historical society/museum. He also bought 20 acres which overlooked the Missouri River, bull dozed off an area to where he built a black smith shop. It was probably known better to being used for outdoor weddings/receptions/family gatherings as he maintained it in pristine condition.
Mr. Breeze was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #154 of White Cloud; and of the Doniphan County Historical Society.
Survivors include a son Ray Ratzlaff Breeze of Simi Valley, California; a sister Norma Jean Green of Fairfield, California; a niece Ann Brown of Indio, CA; nephews Greg Sanchez of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jim Rowe of Topeka, KS.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Doris Rowe, Anita Breeze; and a nephew Doug Green.
Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, with Sam Blythe officiating. Interment will follow at the Olive Branch Cemetery, White Cloud. Military honors will be a courtesy of the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon Thursday and where the family will meet from 6 until 7:30 that evening.
