SALEM TOWNSHIP MAN WAS LONGTIME DRYWALL CONTRACTOR:

Ronald Lee Bates, 225 Quinter Road, Salem Township, died Sunday evening (9-5-99) in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, from injuries sustained in a car crash Thursday (9-2-99) on Beatty School Road, Salem Township. He was 56.

Mr. Bates was born Dec. 17, 1942, in Grenville to Ralph and Evelyn Woerz Bates.

The member of Local 268 of the carpenters union was a self-employed drywall contractor since 1965.

Mr. Bates was a member of Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Otter Creek Township.

He also belonged to Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 424, Jamestown; and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Warren, PA.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Marilyn Grinnell, whom he married Sept. 7, 1961; two sons, Wesley and Lester, both of Hadley; two daughters, Mrs. Steven (Nancy) Sunderland, Andover, Minn.; and Mrs. Danny(Regina) Brison, Hadley; his mother, Evelyn Pheasant, McClure, Pa.; three sisters, Mrs. Donald (Sandra) White; and Shirley, both of Jamestown; and Barbara Boech, California; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.
