Virginia Kate Darter Barber

Virginia was born November 2, 1923 in Scott County, Virginia and went home to be with the Lord on December 31, 2012 in Kingsport, TN.

Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Virginia was a self-educated historian who was as knowledgeable as anyone in ancient, world and American history.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter H. Darter and Lena Kate McDavid Darter; three brothers, Peter Jr., Bill and Hiram Darter; husband, Arthur Barber; infant daughters, Mary Ann and Frances Katherine.
She is survived by her sons, Art Barber and wife, Linda, Mike Barber and wife, Lou, Matt Barber and wife, Dinah, Rex Barber Sr. and wife Sandy; daughters, Rita Bellamy and Jess, Bonnie Baker and husband, Pastor Wayne Baker; the joy of her life, her grandchildren, Marianne Silvers, Tim Barber and Sara, Ginny Bellamy, Lisa Bellamy, James Bellamy and Debbie, Andy Bellamy, Matt Bellamy, Morris Baker and Angie, Stephen Baker and Michelle, Shanna Hensley and Eric, Jody Barber and special friend Larry Crowley, Susan Holton and Franklin, Tracy Riordan and Brian, Amy Cornwell and Allen, Gordon Barber, Jason Barber and Amber, Rex Barber Jr. and Jennifer, Tom Barber and Jennifer, Nick Barber and Jessica; her great grandchildren, McGuire, Noah, Joey, Emily, Danny, Mackenzie, Michala, Gunner, Emma, Eric, Sara, Emily, Scott, Alex, Kate, Peyton, Emily, Max, Matt, Marcie, Savannah, Jason, Aidin, Zach, Payton, Alissa, Katie, Jeff, Addison, Ethan, Rachel and Ben; great great grandson, Ashton; sisters, Catherine Darter Haynes, Pauline Darter Collins, Elizabeth Darter Fields, Mary Darter Fields and husband Thomas; sister-in-law, Dorothy Darter; also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 3 pm on Friday, January 4, 2013 at Scott County Funeral Home.

A service will follow at 3 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Wayne Baker and Rev. Morris Baker officiating. Music will be provided by Alvin Goins and Shanna Hensley.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday January 5, 2013 at Fields Family Cemetery, Yuma, VA.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Baker, James Bellamy, Andy Bellamy, Gordon Barber, Jason Barber, Rex Barber Jr., Tom Barber, Nick Barber and Matt Bellamy.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Crown Cypress for the 3 ½ years of loving care and to the staff of Wexford House for their loving care for the last 5 months.
