Long Illness is Fatal for J. E. Beach

Jesse E. Beach, one of the best known residents of DuBois, and a man highly regarded in the community, passed away at his home at an early hour Wednesday morning, death following a short illness, although the deceased had not been in the best of health for some little time. He died at 12:17 Wednesday morning. Mr. Beach is an old-time resident of DuBois, and the news of his death was heard with deep regret on the part of his many friends.

Mr. Beach was born on February 18, 1861, and was united in marriage to Eliza Lenig, on November 8, 1881, the ceremony taking place at Penfield. This marriage was the first one preformed by the late Dr. J. Vernon Bell, who had just taken up his first pastorate at Penfield. The best man at this wedding was Ezra S. Gray, former editor of the DuBois Courier, and who just recently retired as editor and proprietor of the Chowchilla California News.

Following the wedding the young couple moved to DuBois, where Mr. Beach engaged in the barber business. Later Mr. Beach attended the Toronto Medical School, going there about 40 years ago. He practiced veterinary surgery for several years following his graduation but about thirty years ago was stricken totally blind. He underwent an operation and his eyesight was restored. Following this he took up the barbering profession and continued in that work until the time of his death.

The deceased is survived by his widow and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Levina Davis, Narrows Creek; Charles Edward Beach, Spring avenue; Maude Ellen Frody, at home; Clarence Wesley, Falls Creek; James Franklin Beach, of DuBois. One son, Harry and one daughter, Myrtle May, preceded him in death. His mother, Mrs. Jane Bassett-Beach, died 35 years ago, while his father, E. M. Beach, died in 1917. In addition to the children the deceased is survived by 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral services will be held at the home, 107 S. High street, at 2 p.m. Friday. Rev. Mr. Wolf officiating. Burial will be in the Rumbarger Cemetery.
