Mrs. Jesse Beach Died Early Today In Her 93rd Year
Mrs. Emma Eliza Beach, widow of Jesse Beach and one of this community's very old residents, died at her home at Narrows Creek at 7:30 o'clock this morning in her ninety-third year.
Mrs. Beach had been a resident of this section since before the big fire of June 18, 1888. She was born in Brush Valley on November 8, 1860, before the Civil War began, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lenig, early settlers of the Bennett's Valley, where she spent her young womanhood.
On her 21st birthday she was united in marriage at Penfield, with the late Jesse Beach, the ceremony being performed by the late Rev. J. Vernon Bell, D. D., and was the first marriage to be performed at the beginning of his long life as a pastor.
The couple moved to DuBois in 1887 and she had resided here ever since, raising a family of six children, four of whom survive her, as follows: Mrs. H. C.Davis, of Narrows Creek; Mrs. Maud Frody, of DuBois; Clarence Beach, of Falls Creek; and James Beach, of DuBois.
Her husband, who followed the barber business here over a long period of years, died on October 31, 1934; while two sons, Harry and Charles, preceded her in death in 1925 and 1949, respectively.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren, as well as two brothers, Charley Lenig, of Winburne, and Henry Lenig, of DuBois.
Friends will be received at the Moore Funeral Chapel evenings, between 7 and 9 o'clock, beginning tonight, and afternoons between 2 and 4 o'clock, until Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock when services will be conducted at the Moore Chapel by Rev. Mr. Wolf, Nazarene, of Johnstown, and burial will be made in Rumbarger Cemetery.
