Born March 9, 1919, in Salt Lake City, the fifth of seven children born to James H. and Elvida Hyrumine Johnson Fairclough. Wayne grew up in South Salt Lake and attended Madison Elementary School. During World War II he was a gunner's mate aboard the USS Chester (CA-27), and participated in most of the major sea battles in the Pacific. He joined the Naval Reserve after being discharged and was called up during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed aboard the USS Blue (DD-744). Wayne and Lelia Baumann were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple February 8, 1950. Wayne and Lily served together as missionaries in the Jamaica Kingston Mission and at the Jordan River Temple, first as tour guides of the grounds and later as ordinance workers for over nine years.
Survived by sons, Wayne Glen (Beverly) Fairclough Jr., West Valley City; Brent Lee (Karalee) Fairclough, West Valley City; nine grandchildren; brother, Kenneth K. Fairclough. Preceded in death by wife, Lelia; sisters, Gladys and Ruby; brothers, Eugene, Dale and James.
The family is grateful for the care and dedication shown to Wayne by the SNU staff at the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 12 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 So. Redwood Road, where friends may call Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., and Thursday, 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
