Martha Ellen Burnett was born March 18, 1847, in Cedar county near Pedee, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Hines Burnett, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Pearson, January 2, 1933, at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 15 days.

She was united in marriage to Nathan Burnett, March 7, 1869. To this union were born nine children, four boys and five girls.

She united with Cumberland Presbyterian church of Pedee at the age of thirteen and has always remained a member of the church of her childhood.

Mrs. Burnett was always interested in many worthwhile organizations and actively supported them until her failing health made it impossible for her to continue. She spent the last few years of her life with her daughters.

Those of her family who have preceded her in death are her husband, Nathan Burnett, October 19, 1915; four sons, Arthur Leroy at the age of thirteen months, James 1902, William 1917, Sylvester 1927, and one daughter, Mrs. Nettie Lodge Sept. 1932.

Those who survive to cherish her memory are one sister, Mrs. Sarah McCabe, Coon Rapids, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Nina Lundy of Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. Nellie Pearson of West Branch, Mrs. Lizzie Baker of Atalissa and Mrs. Elsie Hawbecker of Olney, Ill.; twenty-three grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church at Springdale, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H.M. Grant. Burial will be made in the Pedee cemetery.
