Nathan W. Burnett, one of the town's venerable residents, died on Tuesday at his Calhoun street home as the result of a stroke of paralysis which he suffered Monday night. Until the hour of the stroke he was in good health despite his seventy-four years. The funeral services are being held this afternoon from the Presbyterian church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Robert McInturff. Burial will be at the Pedee cemetery.

Mr. Burnett was born at Wooster, Ohio, January 14, 1842, and came to Cedar county, Iowa in 1865. Four years later he was united in marriage with Martha Burnett, and to them nine children were born, seven of whom survive: Sylvester of Austin, Minn; Mrs. Netta Lodge of Downey; Mrs. Nellie Pearson of Centerdale; Mrs. Elsie Hawbecker, Springdale; and Mrs. Nina Lundy, Mrs. Lizzie Baker and Will Burnett of West Liberty. After a residence of thirty years in Cedar county, Mr. and Mrs. Burnett moved to Muscatine county and for several years they had made their home in town. The aged widow survives.
