Daugther of Abraham Whelchel and Mary Ann Beaver. Married Elisha Newton Abney on 26 Nov 1871 in Hancock County, IN. Was the mother of Allie, Bertha, Ida, George Willard, John Andrew, Alvin, Charles William, Mary, Alfred Newton, Grover and Nancy.

ILLNESS FATAL TO LYDIA ABNEY, 94

LAPEL, may 25 (Spl) - Mrs. Lydia A. Abney, age 94, widow of Elisha Abney, died at 2:25 this morning at her home in Fishersburg following a long illness.

The body was taken to the Rex McCarty funeral home and will be returned to the residence Friday where friends may call. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 Sunday morning at the Wesleyan Methodist church at Fishersburg of which Mrs. Abney was an active member. Burial will follow at Hair cemetery.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Allie Fox of Indianapolis, Mrs. Bertha Haltman of Frankton, Mrs. Ida Critser of Anderson and Mrs. Nancy Smith of DeKalb, Ill.; four sons, John Abney of Fishersburg, Charles of Indianapolis, Albert of Fowlerton and George of Anderson, and serveral grandchildren.
