O. C. "Buck" Bailey, 78, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, at his home on Marco Island. He moved here in 1990 from Rockport, Texas. He was a graduate of Schreiner Military Institute in Kerrville, Texas. He served aboard the USS Monterey as a fighter pilot during World War II, where he become an ace during the Mariannas "Turkey Shoot." He retired as a commander, earning the Silver Star and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a member of the Marco Men's Club, the Rod and Gun Club, and the Sailing Association of Marco Island. He was a life member of the American Fighter Aces Association and the Confederate Air Force.
He is survived by his loving wife of 10 years, Joan, and many friends.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 22,1998, at San Marco Catholic Church, 851 San Marco Road, Marco Island. Arrangements by Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home.
