Daniel K. Beachum was the fifth son and sixth child of Hugh A. Beachum (1806-1861) and his wife Zillie O'Neal (1812-1882). While the tombstone gives his name as "Daniel R. Beacham," obituaries and other documents list him as Daniel K. Beachum. I always presumed the K. was for Kindred, his mother's father.
Daniel married twice. First to Tabitha Dean (a daughter of Reddick Dean and Mary "Polly" Moore) around 1869, and then to Annie E. Simmons. Buried at Hopewell Methodist Church, Hopewell Church Road, Anson County, NC. I do not know where his first wife is buried. His second wife is listed on the tombstone as born April 25, 1857, with no death date. An obituary printed for her which is in the Wadesboro library has a hand written date of June 14, 1929 on it.
"Mrs. D. K. Beachum, who has been making her home with her nephew, Mr. Paul Burns, died Friday and was buried Saturday at Hopewell church. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Fry, pastor of Hopewell Church. Mrs. Beachum had been in bad health for quite a while. She was 72 years old, and is survived by three bothers: Mr. W. H. Simmons, of Polkton; Mr. Boone Simmons, of Bennettsville, S. C., and Mr. Jim Simmons, and one sister, Mrs. H. W. Beachum, of Ansonville." (note: Annie Simmons Beachum's sister, Regina Belle Simmons, was married to Daniel K. Beachum's nephew, Wilson Hugh Beachum.)
