She was the daughter of Earnest B. and Clara Jane (Dove) Hamilton.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Scotland United Methodist Church and Ladies Aid.
Surviving relatives include: two daughters, Eugenia Chaney (Ronnie) of Ellettsville and Marilyn S. Lee (David) of Bloomfield; one brother, Emil Gene Hamilton (Mary Ann) of Bloomfield; one sister, Hazel Josephine Girdley of Bloomfield; her grandchildren, Jolene Merdith (Jay) of Linton, Natalie K. Lenkiewicz of Summerville, South Carolina and Brad Alan Chaney (Dena) of Millersburg; one great grandchild, Jarod Thomas Lenkiewicz of Summerville, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschell V. Dowden on May 12, 1990; sisters, Gladys Ham and Iona Grace Rusher; brothers, Earnest Dean Hamilton and Harold James Hamilton; a granddaughter, Lori Vandeventer and her parents.
