DAVENPORT -- Services for Glen "Shorty" Bennett, Bernard, Iowa, formerly of Davenport, will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Runge Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Mr. Bennett died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at his home after an extended illness. He was employed as a head mechanic at Oscar Mayer Foods Corp. He retired after 30 years of service. He built stock cars for 35 years and played in the Country Ramblers Band in Davenport. He was born June 30, 1916, in Plano, Iowa. He married Polly Thackery in 1941 in Seymour, Iowa. She died in 1995. He had served in the Army. Memorials may be made to Dubuque Hospice. Survivors include daughters, Greta Carlson, Davenport, and Betty Fish, Maquoketa; sons, Ben, Bernard, and Glen E. "Sonny," Nashville, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lorine Stroud, Davenport, and Floy Wilson and Cleo Carlson, both of Seymour; and brother, Vernon, Moline.
