Jerry served in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of PFC. He served in the Asian Pacific Theater as a light machine gunner, where he saw battle in New Guinea and in Luzon, Philippines. Jerry received a Purple Heart and a Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star, as well as a Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, and a Bronze Arrowhead.
After the war Jerry worked as a a miner, at one time working with the government to help construct the NORAD facility at Cheyenne Mountain. Later in life Jerry and his wife became successful small business owners and devoted time to volunteer work, friends, and family.
