Willard Houston Cole was born October 21, 1924, in Teresita, OK, to Dallas & Annie Henrietta (Gillum) Cole. He departed this life Sunday, July 22, 2012, in Claremore, OK, at the age of 87 years, 9 months, & 1 day.

Willard grew up in the Rose, OK area where he attended Smith Chapel School. He served his country proudly in the Unites States Army during WWII. He saw action in the South Philippines & Western Pacific Islands. His service resulted in him being awarded a Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star & a Good Conduct Medal.

On August 15, 1946, in Pryor, OK, Wilma Eudora Littlefield & Willard Houston Cole were united in marriage. The couple lived in Rose & Tulsa for some time before making Peggs their home for over 50 years. In October of 2002, the couple moved to Chouteau.

Willard was a devoted member of the Peggs Free Will Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon. He was also a member of the Mayes County D.A.V. & recipient of a 50 year Masonic pin through the Covey Lodge #460 in Locust Grove. Willard worked in construction & truck driving. He retired as an Assistant Foreman for McDonnell Douglas after 30 1/3 years of service.

Willard enjoyed hunting & fishing. He also enjoyed time spent raising cattle. He loved his friends dearly & was always thankful for all who were good to him. His family & friends will greatly miss him.

Willard is survived by His wife of over 65 years; three sons and spouses; two sisters; ten grandchildren and their spouses; twenty one great grandchildren; Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, & a host of friends. He was preceded in death by: his parents; 7 brothers; & 3 sisters.

Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Peggs Free Will Baptist Church. Reverend Phillip Buford, Reverend Jerry Troglin, Reverend James Rice, and Reverend Lance Cole officiated. Interment followed at the New Home Cemetery in Peggs, Oklahoma. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
