Carl E. "Cotton" Akers, 69, of Archer City died Monday June 5, 2006, in a Wichita Falls hospital. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Aulds Funeral Home with Roger Deerinwater, pastor of First Baptist Church in Archer City, officiating. Interment will follow in the Archer City Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.

Mr. Akers was born Nov. 11, 1936, to Herschel Akers and Cecil Reger Akers in Eliasville. He and Norma Wheeler were married July 19, 1958, in Graham. They had lived in Archer City since 1970.

Mr. Akers was employed by National Cash Register Company for 36 years as a field engineer and retired in 1994. He was a member of the Assembly of God church.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Akers; four daughters, Carla and Cindy Akers, both of Wichita Falls, Donna Bates and husband Ray and Marsha Boone and husband Tracey, all of Archer City; five grandsons, Justin, Hayden and Reagan Bates, Shelby and Straton Boone; three brothers, Floyd Akers of Tye, Fred Akers of Eliasville and Clyde Akers of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
