Born in Greer, Dr. Barnett was a son of the late James Verner Barnett and Lois Tinsley Barnett. He graduated from Greer High School and, from 1943 to 1946, served in the U.S. Navy. He was a graduate of Furman University, Class of '48, and received his D.D.S. from the Medical College of Virginia. He practiced dentistry in Greenville for forty years and was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church, where he was a former member of the choir. After his active service, he kept up his retirement activities with the Navy and was retired as a Captain after serving a total of 32 years.
Surviving are his son, William Charles Barnett of Greenville, a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Barnett Blackston and Ted Steven Blackston of Simpsonville, and two grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Blackston and Megan Nicole Blackson. Dr. Barnett was predecesed by his wife, a brother, and three sisters.
Memorial services will be 3:30 PM Wednesday in Harper Chapel of First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Richard Gibbons officiating. A private committal service at Woodlawn Memorial Park will follow.
The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor from 1:30 PM to 3:15 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
Family members are at their respective homes.
