Obituary from the Iles Funeral Home:
Cherie Amadeo
March 17, 1935 - November 25, 2017
Born in Waterloo, Iowa
Resided in Danville, California
Surrounded by loving, devoted family, Cherie Amadeo passed away peacefully yet much too soon on November 25th in Danville, California, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 82.
Cherie was born on March 17, 1935, in Waterloo, Iowa and graduated from Ankeny High School in 1952. She married James Amadeo in 1952, and they remained together until his death in 1983. Together they raised a large family and opened their West Des Moines home to extended family, friends, neighbors and anyone who needed a loving home and a delicious home cooked meal.
Cherie's love, devotion and compassion for her family and friends touched each of them on a very personal level. She was well known for her creativity, colorful personal style, vivacious personality, generosity and great cooking, especially during the holidays when she, husband Jim and their children hosted a large, Italian style holiday party where everyone was welcome. Cherie inspired many generations to follow her example of family unity, generosity and contagious holiday spirit.
Cherie was a remarkable free-hand artist and a talented pianist and writer. She was a devoted mother and "Nonnie" who delivered unconditional love. She often sang, danced, told hilarious, colorful stories and created art with her beloved grandchildren. There was never a time where she couldn't be counted on to be present for anyone who needed her.
Cherie was committed to both expanding her education and her own personal and spiritual development. Cherie's business career spanned nearly 40 years during which she held many executive positions including President of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Securities Corporation and President of the Iowa CLU. She also founded a sporting goods company, A+ Athletics, with her husband Jim. She was dedicated to helping him pursue his dreams and obtain patents for the boxing safety products they designed together and sold worldwide.
Cherie traveled extensively throughout the country and world for both work and pleasure. She was passionate about learning and accepting other cultures. She actively practiced Agape love - the highest form of love and charity.
Cherie was a champion and active volunteer for causes she believed in. She served on the Board of Directors for the Gilroy Historical Society in Gilroy, California and hosted her own "Salons" in her Long Beach, California home to encourage intellectual freedom and world awareness and activism. She spent many years exploring personal growth and spiritual enlightenment at The Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California, which she cherished as a mecca for peace and healing.
Cherie leaves behind daughters Michelle (Miguel) Salazar; Karen "Jade" Amadeo; J'aime (Chris) Amadeo-Ranch; sons Giovanni Amadeo and Gerard (Lindsay) Amadeo; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces, nephews and friends.
