When Kenneth Laverne Meyer was born on September 11, 1926, in Creston, Nebraska, his father, Louis H. Meyer, was 29 and his mother, Meta Settje Meyer, was 24. Kenneth Meyer had three older brothers (Ralph, Phil, and Hank), two younger brothers (Don and Glenn), and one younger sister (Ellen.) He served as an enlisted man in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was called up again for service in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a computer programmer from the 1950s until his death. He met his future wife Sharon Marguerite Farrell when he worked for Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha, Nebraska. He had two sons (Michael and Patrick) and three daughters (Laurie, Jeanne, and Shari) with Sharon Marguerite Farrell between 1958 and 1965. In 1966, he moved his family to the Santa Clara Valley and worked for Lockheed Missile and Space Company until his death on July 15, 1987, in San Jose, California, at the age of 60. He died from a stroke that resulted from a head injury in combination with debilitated health from type 2 diabetes. After a coma that lasted several months, Kenneth Meyer was the first among his siblings to die. In addition to his widow, his five children, and the two grandsons who had been born at the time of his death, his mother, five brothers, sister, and mother-in-law all attended his funeral at St. Catherine of Alexandria in Morgan Hill, California. His grave and the grave of his widow, who survived him for 25 years, are next to each other.
