Laura Burke, 97, Mother Of Nine, Dies At Auxier
Mrs. Laura A. Burke, age 97, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ola Hall, at Auxier, Ky. on October 28. She was the last child of Jefferson and Lorena Auxier Conley. One of Johnson County's earliest teachers, she was married to Albert Burke, and was the mother of nine children. Mrs. Burke had been a member of the Methodist Church for 79 years and was a devoted Christian woman. She has many relatives in Johnson County, one of whom is Mrs. Laura Music, former postmaster of East Point, who is a niece. Her husband, a son, and a daughter preceded her in death. Surviving children are Mrs. Ola Hall, Auxier, Mrs. Stella Wells, Elyria, Ohio, Roy Burke, Columbus, Ohio, Bert and Sherman Burke, Williamson, W. Va., Willie Burke, Marion, Ohio, and Mrs. Helen Price, Ft. Gay, W. Va. A number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted from the Freewill Baptist Church at Auxier October 31, with the Rev. S.C. Honeycutt of the Church of Christ officiating. Burial followed in the Ford Cemetery at Auxier. Paintsville Herald Wednesday 11-11-1959
