Elaine Drew, age 94, of Merrill, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Bell Tower Residence. She was born October 23, 1919 in Merrill to the late Sigfred and Marie (Wyland) Stevenson. Elaine and Shirley Drew were united in marriage on August 30, 1940 in Merrill.
Elaine and her husband Shirley started the original Drew's Super Market in 1944. She was currently President and she along with her sons owned and operated the Drew's Piggly Wiggly store. In her younger years Elaine enjoyed many games of golf. She was a Packer season ticket holder and took pride in the fact she never missed a game! Elaine enjoyed playing Bridge and liked taking trips to the casino. She loved time spent at the family cottage in Minocqua and enjoyed traveling with her husband Shirley. Elaine liked spending time at the store visiting with her friends and neighbors but she especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Elaine was the first recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Women of Distinction Award. She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her sons: Philip (Sandra) Drew and Steven (Ginny) Drew, all of Merrill; four grandchildren: Jon (Angie) Drew, Jennifer (Andy) Bonnel, Steven (Amy) Drew, all of Merrill, and Elizabeth (Mike) Heun, Brookfield; eight great-grandchildren: Grace, Cole, Evan, Claire, Madelyn, Hannah, Katie and Drew; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Shirlaine; husband, Shirley; brothers, Howard and Earl and sister, Signa.
Private family services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014. Entombment will follow. Memorials may be given in Elaine's name to the charity of choice. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
