Myrtle Leota Pearce was born March 17, 1917 in Longtown, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, United States. She was the only daughter born to Ebenezer and Alberta (Bertie) Freeman Pearce. She had six brothers, all older than her except for one. She and her siblings attended schools in the Eufaula, McIntosh County, Oklahoma area. Her father was a farmer and worked for others who owned farms. They were of Baptist faith and attended church regularly. She told me if anyone in the county died her mother made all the children attend the funerals out of respect. Her father, Ebenezer passed away in 1921 when Myrtle was only four years old with the flu that lead to pneumonia. Bertie remarried before 1930. She married a widower, William Cothran and they lived in Hanna, McIntosh, Oklahoma, United States. Myrtle married Clyde Williams November 12, 1931 in Sebastian County, Arkansas, United States. They lived in McIntosh County, Oklahoma and Myrtle gave birth to a son named Jimmie Randall Williams on August 17, 1932. The following year she gave birth to a daughter, Lela Faye Williams. In 1940 the family moved to California for better job opportunities. Her husband Clyde and Myrtle divorced and Myrtle married Aaron Sherrell February 2, 1947 at Reno, Nevada. They never had any children together. They owned a restaurant in Sanger, California and managed several motels. She loved all sports and watched them faithfully on television. I remember in the early sixties she would have her ear glued to the radio listening to the baseball games. She loved to hear and tell jokes. She lost her two children and husband before her death. She was very lonely after her husband Aaron's death; she followed him less than two years later. Myrtle Leota Pearce Sherrell died February 28, 1997 and was interred March 4, 1997 at Belmont Memorial Park, Fresno, Fresno, California, United States
