Griffith "Hound Dog" Acklin, 88, of Rowes Run, Fayette County, Pa., died Monday, June 11, 2007, in his home. He was born on October 10, 1918, in Brownsville, Fayette County, Pa., son of the late John Duncan and Nora (Kelley) Acklin.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Brownsville, Pa., and the Colonial 3 Athletic Club. He served in the United States Air Corp. during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 295, Brownsville, Pa., and retired from Columbia Gas Company.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Scander) Acklin; stepsons: Wayne Mickey, David Mickey, Greg Mickey, and Randy Wishard; stepdaughter, Chrisaundra Wishard; 10 step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the last member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded him in death was his first wife, Ann (Valosich) Acklin.

Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 135 Park Street, Brownsville, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m., with Pastor Scott Hoppe, officiating. Interment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park, Route 40 East, Brier Hill, Fayette County, Pa. Full military rites will be accorded by the American Legion Posts 940, 295, 275 and 838.
