Gladys B. Mace, 89, of Harrisburg, Pa., formerly of Virginia, passed away March 4, 2005, in Spring Creek Nursing Home.
She was the widow of Roy C. Mace of Grottoes, Va. She was born in Carlisle, Pa. on Jan. 21, 1916, and was the daughter of the late Ethel L. (Thrush) Brickner and George L. Brickner.
She graduated from the former Lower Paxton Twp. High School, Pa. She worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Labor & Industry. During World II, she worked at the Middletown Air Depot and in Virginia she worked in the flower shops and taught handicapped children. She was a member of the Church of the Friends. Her early interest in flowers and the love of singing remained with her throughout her lifetime; she filled her home and her church with the sound of music. She was a devoted wife to Roy. She enjoyed doing good deeds and having devotional meetings in their home.
She is survived by her three sisters, Violette M. Brickner, Georgetta D. Brickner, Gloria A. and her husband, Ken Hutchinson, all of Harrisburg; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Mace family cemetery, Grottoes, Va. Memorial services in Harrisburg will be announced at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to Breast Cancer Research, American Cancer Society, 3211 North Front, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
