The deceased was born in Zell, on the Moselle river, Germany. He came to this city in 1871 at the age of 15 years. Mr. Andrae entered the meat market business with his brother, Michael, and their place of business was located on Sargent street. In 1879 Mr. Andrae went into business for himself at 23 White street and two years later built the building at 26 White street, in which his business has been located ever since. In 1922 Mr. Andrae took his two sons, Paul J. and Anthony J., into business with him and the firm name was made Paul H. Andrae and Sons. Mr. Andrae had taken an active interest in civic, business and fraternal affairs of the city. He was a director of the chamber of commerce. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Bernard's Church. In June, 1929, Mr. Andrae marked 50 years of continuous business in this city and with Mrs. Andrae marked their 46th wedding anniversary.
