Obituary Bismarck Tribune (April 03, 2009)
HANNOVER - Hulda Albers, 96, Hannover, passed away March 30, 2009, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Hannover, with the Rev. Irvin Bruenjes officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the Hannover Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at Elm Crest Manor Nursing Home, New Salem, and will continue from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church in Hannover and one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday.

Hulda Maria Dorothea Henke was born Dec. 27, 1912, in Hannover, to Henry E. and Bertha (Gieske) Henke. She was baptized, confirmed and had been a life-long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. She lived in the Hannover area for her entire life.

On April 17, 1937, she was united in marriage to Albert Albers in Hazen. They made their home on the farm near Hannover until Albert's death in October 1990. Hulda then moved to Center. Just prior to her 90th birthday, she moved to Elm Crest Assisted Living in New Salem, where she had nearly seven joy-filled years. She had been a resident of the nursing home since October 2008.

Hulda enjoyed a long and happy life and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, dearly loved by her family and friends. She enjoyed music, reading, sewing, cooking, baking kuchen and rolls for her family and writing poetry. Her greatest love was for people. She had a strong Christian faith and a wonderful gift of listening to people. She was a friend and counselor to many, especially her care givers and fellow residents at Elm Crest. She loved them all and felt it was her job to bring a bit of sunshine to all people's lives.

Her sense of humor was just one of her beautiful attributes. Always wanting to try new things, she took a motorcycle ride in her mid-80s and learned to play the drums at age 93 so she could play with her beloved fellow musicians at Elm Crest.

Hulda is survived by three children, Jim (Lucille) Albers, Pick City, Fayette (James) Harrison, Moorhead, Minn., and Linda (David) McAdoo, Williston; two daughters-in-law, Alice Henke, Tacoma, Wash., and Leslie Albers, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn (Arnold) Maier, Bismarck; and one brother, Kenneth (Audrey) Henke, Hannover.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; two sons, Keith Henke and Everett Albers; her parents; two brothers, Alfred Henke and Lester Henke; and two sisters, Mildred and Malinda.
