Leila Cornell Ferguson Leila Adele Cornell Ferguson, age 82, of Spring City, Mo., passed away at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at a local healthcare center. Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Spring City, she was the daughter of the late Earl E. Cornell and Clara Kleine Cornell and had lived in Spring City her lifetime. A graduate of Seneca High School and a homemaker, she also worked at Joplin Machinery in 1942 and 1943, Credit Bureau of Joplin from 1945 to 1957, Red Wing Shoes and retired from Vitality Unlimited, where she worked from 1977 to 1980. She was a member of Spring City Baptist Church and the Order of Eastern Star in Neosho. On April 26, 1953, she married Glen G. Ferguson at Neosho. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1980. Three brothers, Alvin, Herb and Karl Cornell, also preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Mark Ferguson and his wife, Janice, of Neosho; a daughter, Glenna Whitehead and husband, Mitch, of Joplin; five grandchildren, Hayley and Corey Whitehead and Alexandra, Ryan and Derek Ferguson; a sister, Vera Kinkade, of Neosho; and four brothers, Vearl Cornell, of Joplin, Leo Cornell, of Diamond, Mo., Ed Cornell, of Neosho, and Dr. Kenneth Cornell, of Quitman, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Bobby Vermillion officiating. Interment will follow at Hornet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Spring City Baptist Church.
