Lela S. Abney, 86, of Lafayette died Friday, April 10, 2015 at IU Arnett Hospital.

She was born September 10, 1928, in Brownsville, KY, to the late Patrick and Laura Mae Priddy Sanders. Lela graduated from Brownsville High School in Brownsville, KY. On May 6, 1950 she married Carl Abney Jr. in Jeffersonville and he survives. Lela was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, animals and jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving along with her husband are her children Marcus Abney (Jan) of Lafayette, Pamela Snyder of Indianapolis, grandchildren Melissa Abney, Matthew Abney (Julie), Cameron Snyder, Ben Snyder and a great grandson Max Abney. Also surviving are her sisters Pearl Hatfield of Castle Rock, CO and Thelma Myers (Ed) of Colorado Springs, CO.

Lela was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 6 sisters.

Visitation will be 12:00-2:00 PM Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. A private service will be held. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Those wishing may contribute to the Alzheimer's Association in Lela’s memory.
