Son of Lafayete Barnes and Eliza Jane Hartman, Charles married Chiota "Otie" Montgomery on 19 July 1891 [Book 9, p. 157] in Parke Co., IN. Between 1900 and 1910 he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad, as a telegraph operator in Jasper Co., IL, and by 11920 in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN. Later he became a Baptist minister on the north side of Terre Haute at the Greenwood Baptist Church. He was a member of the Catlin, Parke Co., IN, Ancient, Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge. His daughter Belva Frances Barnes Bridgewater is also buried here. His wife Chiota "Otie" Montgomery Barnes is also buried here.
