Emelda Niquet Nelson was born in Guatamala City, where her father was in the business of buying and selling tapestries. She grew up in Paris,France, where she remembered rollerskating around the Notre Dame Cathedral as a child. She was a World War I war bride, her husband was William "Wild Bill" Nelson. They made their home in Staunton, Indiana where they had a family of seven children, three boys: Lucien, Harry and Donald and four girls: Christina, Jean, Lenora and Jennie. I remember her as having great dignity, intelligence and humor.
