Marion Frank Baulch/Balch was born in 1861 in Giles Co., TN to Hiram Frank Baulch and Mary Gant. His only full sibling was Lizzie Baulch who married Lewis Houston Cole of Giles Co., TN. He was known as "Uncle Frank" to the Cole family. Hiram Baulch died when Frank was just a baby, and Frank and Lizzie were raised by their mother and her new husband, George W. Hendrix.

In the 1880 Census. Frank can be found as Marion Baulch living as a hired hand in Crockett Co, TN. He cannot be found in any subsequent censuses, but family lore says he had moved to Texas and he did indeed eventually die there. He was not known to have married by the family, but in the 1940 census, it indicates he's a widower.

His relationship with his sister and brother-in-law in Giles County was strained. Family lore has it that he would return to the county when he needed money. It was apparently so strained that when Frank fell ill in Texas, and his nephew Wilburn Cole was contacted by someone there to come get him, Wilburn told them they could keep him.

Frank's death certificate under the name "Frank Baulch" in Texas indicates he died on Feb. 9, 1949 at the Avery Nursing Home in Houston at age 87. His parents and marital status are shown as unknown.

Thanks to help from the George H. Lewis Funeral Home in Houston, the Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan, TX and eventually the Bryan City Cemetery, it was determined that he had been buried in Block 3, lot 103, space D of the cemetery. The owner of the burial lot was stated to have been the Federated Church Society. The only headstone near the plot says "FROM THE PROTESTANT CHRISTIAN WOMEN OF BRAZOS COUNTY 1928."

Update: His recently surfaced obituary indicates he arrived in Bryan, Texas in 1938. He would have been 77 at the time.
