EDWARD ZIMA

Edward W. Zima, age 98, formerly of 4318 Goodwin Road, Manitowoc, died at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, 2004 at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. The Rev. Gerald Foley will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Ed was born on Nov. 11, 1905 at Stangelville, WI, son of the late Matt and Mary Mazanet Zima. He grew up in the Mishicot area and was a 1924 graduate of the Mishicot High School. While in high school Ed was the class president of 19 students, a member of the annual staff and Drama Club and played four years on the basketball team then known as the Mishicot Chiefs that won their conference championship his senior year. Edward was married to the former Elsie C. Schroeder on June 15, 1927. The couple lived in Manitowoc for 32 years and later moved to 4318 Godwin Road in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids. Elsie preceded Ed in death on Oct. 17, 1998. Edward was vice president of Dick Brothers Bakery in Manitowoc for 44 years retiring in 1974. He was a member of Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc Pigeon Flying Club, The Manitowoc Fancy Pigeon Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #706 of Manitowoc, and the Manitowoc Kiwanis Club. Ed was a lifelong lover of pigeons. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Mary (Dave) Stangel of Manitowoc; two sons and daughters-in-law: Matthew (Jane) Zima, Darboy; Richard (Arlene) Zima, Punta Gorda, FL; eight grandchildren: Kathy (Gary) Butzlaff, Oregon, WI; Kevin(Carrie) Stangel, Two Rivers; Kim and Khristopher Stangel, Milwaukee; Lynn(Rob) Roehrborn, Darboy; Mark Zima, Darboy; Rick (Patti) Zima of Kewaskum; Cheri Zima of Neenah; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Ruby Schroeder, Florida. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Relatives and friends may call at Holy Innocents Catholic Church on Monday, May 10, 2004 from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is serving the Zima family.
