HISTORICAL NOTES:
THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, August 7, 1902, page 1. "AMONG THE FARMERS. Facts About the Thrifty Agriculturists Near Maxwell. It would be hard indeed to find a country better adapted to the pursuits of agriculture than the territory surrounding Maxwell, the fertility of the soil, the excellent water facilities and a number of other things help to make it the garden spot of the earth. All kinds of staple products peculiar to a temperate climate abound in this community, but even though everything in the way of soil and climate might be conducive to the growing of great crops, it could not be done without the manifestation of energy and thrift on the part of those who have the great work of tilling the soil in charge, and in this central Iowa and especially the land surrounding our beautiful little city are particularly favored.
The TRIBUNE is especially proud of the fact that it is located in a thriving town surrounded by such favorable circumstances and in order to keep apace with the times we have decided to devote a part of our space, for a time at least, to the interests of the farmer, who must provide for all, and consequently we will present the names of a few of our energetic men this week. .... A young man greatly to be admired for his sterling worth is ROY WHITNEY, who lives on Thomas Stilwell's excellent eighty acre farm. Mr. Whitney is a man of enterprise and intelligence and is rapidly moving forward. He has thirty-five acres of good corn and twenty-five of oats, he has some very fine stock, consisting of forty-one head of cattle, eleven horses and twenty-three hogs. Mr. Whitney uses modern methods in his work and is very successful in all his undertakings."
