Mrs. Meta Mattes, 83, of 2012 Monroe St., New Holstein, widow of Arthur W., died early Sunday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, following a lingering illness.
A resident of New Holstein the past 10 years, she was born at Brillion Sept. 29, 1889, daughter of the late Carl and Minnie Fischer Janke. She attended local schools.
In June 1918, she was married to Mr. Mattes in Green Bay. He died in 1952. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, New Holstein.
Survivors are a step-son, A. A. Mattes of Milwaukee; two brothers, Arthur C. Janke of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Alvin G. of Waupaca, and a sister, Mrs. Emily Hermance of Bristol, Ind.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Erbe-Ebjen Funeral Home, New Holstein, with the Rev. Albert K. Borns, pastor of St. John UCC, officiating. Burial will be in Rockville Cemetery.
