Edwin F. Raether, 70, of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, died Wednesday morning at Holy
Family Hospital after a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First German Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. L. H. Koeninger will officiate and burial
will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The American Legion, Drews Bleser Post 88,
representing the U.S. government, will provide a firing squad and will play
taps.
Mr. Raether was born Feb. 16, 1895, in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids, son of the
late Louis Eberhardt Raether. He married Ella Bauch Nov. 15, 1917, at Newtonburg
and the couple farmed in the township. He also worked for Burger Boat Co. Inc.,
and Roorbach Greenhouses. He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the
American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, three sons, Elmer and Norman, of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, and
Elton, of Rt. 4, Manitowoc, a daughter, Mrs. Loyal (Edna) Schwanke, of Rt. 3,
Manitowoc; a sister, Mrs. Adolph Eichman, of Manitowoc and nine grandchildren.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after 3 p.m.
Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday and then at the church;
