August Meier Died Friday

August Meier passed away at the home of his son, Carl Meier, in Pine City, last Friday, July 8th, at 2 p.m., at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 2 days. He had been ailing since last fall.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. D.W. Thompson, Presbyterian pastor, from the Swanson funeral chapel Monday morning, at 9 o'clock and the remains were laid to rest in the Riverview cemetery in St. Paul. The pall bearers were three sons, Carl, Henry, and Jacob, two sons-in-law, Bert Puckett and C.V. Miller, and a grandson, Carl Puckett.

August Theodore Meier was born in Dangast, Germany, September 6, 1867, and came to the United State in 1884. In 1887 he was married to Gretchen Franzen at Grundy Center, Iowa and three children were born to this union, two sons and one daughter. His wife passed away in 1893. On August 20, 1894, he was married to Anna Katherine Dingel at Grundy Center and five children, three sons and two daughters were born to this union. Two of these sons died in infancy. They came to Pine City in 1919 and settled on a farm southwest of town on the Brunswick road in Royalton township. Mrs. Meier passed away November 23, 1929. Mr. Meier retired from farming last September and made his home with his son, Carl, here since then.

Surviving are three sons, Henry and Carl of Pine City and Jacob of New Ulm, and 3 daughters, Mrs. Anna Martin of Crawfordsville, Iowa, Mrs. Bert Puckett of Ogilvie and Mrs. C.V. Miller of Darwin; one brother, Henry Meier of Germany, two sisters, Mrs. Charles Badja of Titonka, Iowa and Mrs. William Backhause of Germany; also 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
