Bailey Inglish, who was the founder of Bonham, took a good look at all of Texas
before he settled in Fannin County, in March 1837. He had come by ferry up Red River with his father, William Joseph Inglish, and several friends who were also looking for homesites. Inglish had filed for a homestead based on his claim under the Republic of Texas Laws. He was the first President of the Fannin County Land Board who accepted his claim. When Bailey Inglish died in 1867 he left 72 living grandchildren.
