OBITUARY:

"Lee W. Hesterman, 82, a former Glen Ellyn Village Board trustee and former owner of Hesterman Bowl, died Sunday in the Wynscape Nursing Center in Wheaton. During his tenure on the Village Board, Mr. Hesterman was instrumental in posing to voters a ballot question asking for approval to create Glen Ellyn's Village Links Golf Course, according to his daughter, Susan Edwards. He also served as president of the Glen Ellyn Rotary Club in 1952, the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce in 1955 and was the chairman of the Glen Ellyn Historical Site Commission. In 1979, he served as director of the First Community Bank of Glen Ellyn. As village historian, he was responsible for collecting and sorting hundreds of old photographs and other memorabilia. "He loved Glen Ellyn," Edwards said. Mr. Hesterman sold cars between 1938 and 1958, mainly Hudsons, Packards and Studebakers. He served as area chairman of the National Auto Dealers Association and president of the Hudson Dealers of Greater Chicago. "He was a born salesman," Edwards said. "Cars were in his blood." The Hesterman family owned the land at Main Street and Roosevelt Road in Glen Ellyn, which later was used by Mr. Hesterman for his car dealership, Hesterman Motors. Mr. Hesterman converted the dealership to a bowling alley in 1958 and named it Hesterman Bowl. He sold the bowling alley in the 1980s, but the current owners have retained the name. He also served as chairman of the Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn. Mr. Hesterman graduated from Glenbard High School, which is now Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, in 1932 and attended Northwestern University in Evanston and North Central College in Naperville. Other survivors include his wife, Harriet. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Leonard Memorial Home Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn."
