He was a son of Emanuel Hennessee and Elizabeth Johnson. He was a farmer and widowed from Luola Adeline Bennett at the time of his death. He died of stomach cancer at age 71.

"Funeral Held Saturday For Spanish-American War Veteran"

"Daniel Lafayette Hennessee, 70, well known Burke County farmer and a veteran of the Spanish-American War, died Friday morning at 11 o'clock at his home south of Morganton on Highway No. 181. Death resulted from an intestinal disorder after an illness of several months.

"Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Snow Hill Methodist church, conducted by Rev. J. C. Story, and interment was in the church cemetery.

"Except for the Spanish-American War in which he served in company B of the Second regiment of the North Carolina infantry he spent his entire life here engaged in farming. His wife died February 5, 1938."

He was survived by two daughters and three brothers.
