HORACE "PUDE" FLYNN

Horace "Pude" Flynn, 77, of Amherst, died Wednesday at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a two-week illness.

Born in Kidder, Ky., he resided there until the age of 15, when he moved to Amherst.

Mr. Flynn worked as a front-end loader operator at the Cleveland Quarries in South Amherst for 48 years before retiring in 1991. He enjoyed working on lawnmowers, building birdhouses and windmills, caring for pigeons and traveling.

Survivors include his sons Allen Henes of Elgin, Tenn. and Arnold Flynn of Vermilion; his daughters Sandra Frederick of Lorain and Elizabeth Lawson of Robbins, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; his brothers, Raymond Flynn of Amherst, Arthur Flynn of Monticello, Ky.; and sister, Shirley Smith of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marie Elaine (nee Henes) Flynn in 1995; his daughter, Sharon Lawson in 2000; grandsons Clifton Lawson Jr. in 1968 and Christopher Henes in 1994; great-grandsons Rodney Wayne Lawson in 1990 and Shawn Frederick in 1988; parents, Ira and Laura (nee Owens); brothers Norman and Quince Flynn; and sisters Stella Flynn and Nella Casada.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, where funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Farrell Keith of Everspring Baptist Church, Amherst will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst.
