Elizabeth W. "Betty" Mathes was the daughter of Charles Karl Mathes, Sr. and Wilhelmina Born.

She married Dewey J. Fackler in 1921.

Betty died at Center Ridge Nursing Home in North Ridgeville, OH and was buried 30 Nov 2002.

ELIZABETH W. "BETTY" FACKLER

Elizabeth W. "Betty" Fackler (nee Mathes), 99, of North Ridgeville, one of the first women hired by General Motors in Elyria, died Tuesday at Center Ridge Nursing Home in North Ridgeville.

Born in South Amherst, she graduated from South Amherst High School and was a lifelong Lorain County resident.

She worked at the former General Motors-Fisher Guide plant in Elyria for 30 years before retiring in 1971as an lnspector. She was hired in 1941 at the start of World War II.

Mrs. Fackler was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and American Legion Post 12 Women's Auxiliary, both in Elyria.

She enjoyed bowling and helped start the Elyria Women' s Bowling League. She also was a member of Elyria Women's Hall of Fame.

Survivors include grandsons Charles Fackler of Mountain Rest, S.C., David Fackler of Elyria and Dennis Fackler of Rutland; nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey J., in 1964; a son, Wesley, in 1983; her parents, Carl and Minnie (nee Born) Mathes and brothers Mark and Gus Mathes.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Busch-Curtis-Scheuffler Family Chapel, 114 Second St., Elyria, where services will be 10 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Alan Grothe, pastor of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Elyria, will officiate.

Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in South Amherst.

NORTH RIDGEVILLE -- Elizabeth W. "Betty" Fackler (nee Mathes), 99, of North Ridgeville, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Center Ridge Nursing Home, North Ridgeville.

She was born in 1903 in South Amherst and was a lifelong Lorain County resident.

She graduated from South Amherst High School.

Mrs. Fackler retired in 1971 as an inspector at GM Fisher Guide, Elyria, where she had worked for 30 years. She was one of the first women hired by Elyria's GM plant in 1941at the start of World War II.

She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and American Legion Post 12 Women's Auxiliary, both in Elyria.

She enjoyed bowling and helped establish Elyria Women's Bowling. She was inducted as a member of the Elyria Women's Hall of Fame.

Survivors include three grandsons, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey J. Fackler, in 1964; son, Wesley Fackler, in 1983; brothers Mark and Gus Mathes; and parents Carl and Minnie Mathes (nee Born).
