Martin Paul Mathes was the son of Charles Karl Mathes Sr. and Wilhelmina Born.

He married Ella E. Frick in 1927.

OBITUARIES -- MARTIN PAUL MATHES --

Martin Paul Mathes, 94, former South Amherst resident, died Nov. 6 at the Williamsburg Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Williamsburg, Va.
Born in South Amherst, he lived there until moving to Williamsburg three years ago to be near his son.
He was a machinist for Western Automatic, a division of Moen Inc., for more than 30 years, retiring in 1966.
Mr. Mathes served on the South Amherst City Council for more than 26 years. He was elected council president four times and was a delegate to the Regional Planning Commission and liaison to the Lorain County Commissioners. He had served on every committee of council and was instrumental in obtaining an addition to the fire station. His final term ended in 1976.
He was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, Amherst.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Martin C., of Williamsburg, Va.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by many brothers and sisters.
Services were Nov. 10 at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, with the Rev. David J. Gross, pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, officiating.
The Hempel Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
