   George Robert "Bob" Erwin was born in May 1896 to Francis M and Cannie Erwin. His parents had married in 1888 and in 12 years had delivered 7 children, 5 of them still living. Bob was the 4th of those 5 surviving children. They lived in Ashville (St. Clair Co) AL and his father was farming.
   In 1901 the last baby was born, Lloyd Dalton. In 1910 they are living in Gadsden (Etowah) AL and Millie, Willie and Annie have all left the home. The census states that his parents have been married 25 years and that 7 children have been born to them, 5 living, but 6 are accounted for. His father is employment is listed as retail merchant, and his occupation is grocer. Of the three boys remaining at home, only Lloyd is still in school. Bob nor Lorenzo show an occupation or schooling. In the 1912 Gadsden city directory, Bob is still shown living in the house at 2120 Walnut (Gadsden) working in a lab, his father listed as a grocer and his mother still living.
   His mother died in December of 1912 and his father married Mary McDaniel, a widow with two children (Dow and Irene) remaining at home. Now living with father and step-mother at 17 Shahan Street are his two younger brothers and the step-siblings. Bob is employed as a laborer in the steel mill and his father is still a grocer. By 1930 his father is deceased but he has married Grace Bowling, a divorcee with 2 baby daughters (Ruby Lee and ) and they have had the first 4 of their 9 children. Their residence is 38 Dwight Ave, Alabama City (Etowah)AL and Bob is working in the blast furnace at the steel mill. The youngest of Grace's daughters has died.
   By 1940 the last 5 of their 9 children together have been born, with baby James arriving in 1937. Their home was at 29 Lookout Ave, Gadsden (Etowah)AL where they had been living since 1935. Bob is working as a wire bender at the steel mill, Grace is employed as a spinner at the cotton mill, Robert M is also working at the cotton mill and a clean up boy and even Albert is employed as a paper carrier for the newspaper. They are living next door to Grace's little brother William D and his wife Minnie.
