Graveside Services will be at 12 p.m. Saturday at Forrest Cemetery for Mr. James A. Erwin, age 73 of Gadsden who went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 16, 2009. Revs. Bruce Word and Richard Harper will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services Directing.
James was a born and raised in Alabama City and attended Gadsden Public School and Alabama School of Trade. He was a member of Crosspoint Community Church. Mr. Erwin was a fireman for the City of Gadsden for 37 years and also worked at The Tabernacle for 25 years. James was an avid Alabama football fan.
Mr. Erwin is preceded in death by his parents, Robert "Bob" and Grace Erwin, brothers, Lamar Erwin, and Robert Erwin and sister, Doris Osborn.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Myra Jane Battles Erwin; Daughters: Nancy Erwin and Carol Erwin (Fiancee' Thomas Williams); Brothers: Bill Erwin – Huntsville and O.J. "Butch" (Christine) Erwin - Gadsden; Sisters: Ruby Bradshaw – Anniston, Jean Bradford – Gadsden, and Pat Peterson – Gadsden
Sister-in-law: Mildred Battles – Gadsden; Many Nieces and Nephews. Pallbearers will be the firemen from the Gadsden City Fire Department Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Perry and Jim Patton.
