William Gordon "Bill" Erwin, 79, of Huntsville died Monday surrounded by his family after a brief illness.

Mr. Erwin was born March 20, 1931, to Robert and Grace Erwin of Gadsden. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Cahaba Shrine. He owned and operated a machine shop for over 40 years in Huntsville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Doris Maxine Erwin of Huntsville; parents, Robert "Bob" and Grace Erwin; brothers, Albert, Oscar, Lamar, Robert and James; and sister, Doris, all of Gadsden.

He is survived by two sons, Timothy Gordon Erwin and wife Vicki and William Scott Erwin and wife Kathy and grandson Will, all of Huntsville; and sisters, Jean Bradford and Pat Peters of Gadsden and Ruby Bradshaw of Anniston.

Visitation will be at 2 p.m. today at Valhalla Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Hal Oakley officiating. Interment will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
