GERTRUDE ATKINS DIES AT 75 YEARS
Mrs. Gertrude E. Atkins of Winterset died Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Memorial hospital here. She had been in poor health the last nine months.
Mrs. Atkins was born at Van Meter March 5, 1893, and was 75 years of age at her death. She was a daughter of Frank and Olive Wright. She spent her early life at Van Meter, where she was a member of the United Brethren church.
She was married Feb. 8, 1911 to John R. Atkins of Van Meter. At that time they moved to Adel, where they lived until 1934, when they moved to Winterset.
Later they moved to LaHarpe, Ill., where they lived until Mr. Atkins death on April 9, 1964. She then returned to Winterset.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Ellen Root of Prole, Mrs. Hazel Phearman of Winterset, Mrs. Maxine Handel of Mt. Vernon, Ind., and Mrs. Martha Hartman of San Jose, Calif.; and a son, Maj. John W. Atkins of Rantoul, Ill. She also leaves 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd Wright of Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Fisher Funeral home in Van Meter, with burial in the Van Meter cemetery.
