John R. Atkins Died In Illinois
John R. Atkins, formerly of the Van Meter community, died last Thursday April 9, at LaHarpe, Ill., where he had lived for nearly 30 years.

Mr. Atkins was born May 27, 1889 near Van Meter, a son of Marion and Rachel Atkins. He was married Feb. 8, 1911 to Gertie Wright of Van Meter. They farmed near Adel for 23 years. In 1934 they moved to Winterset, where they resided briefly before moving to Illinois.

Surviving are his wife; five children, Mrs. Ellen Bane and Mrs. Hazel Phearman of Winterset, Mrs. Msxine Handel of Mt. Vernon, Ind., Mrs. Martha Hartman of San Jose, Calif., and Capt. John Atkins of Rantoul, Ill. He also leaves 17 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and two brothers.

Services were held at Fisher Funeral Home in Van Meter April 12. Burial was in the Van Meter cemetery.
